Fire Chief David Sargenti was born and raised in an agriculturally based family within the Salinas Valley. At an early age, he dreamed of becoming a firefighter and of helping people. His first exposure to the fire service was through ride-a-longs in Southern California with his cousin’s engine company.

Chief Sargenti entered the Volunteer Ranks of the Monterey County Regional Fire District in 1995. In 1996 he was promoted to fulltime Firefighter and achieved the rank of Lieutenant in 1999. He was promoted to Division Chief in 2003, Deputy Chief in 2018 and Fire Chief in 2022. 

Chief Sargenti obtained an Associate of Arts degree in General Studies from Hartnell College, an Associate of Science degree in Fire Protection Technology from Monterey Peninsula College, a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Administration and Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Prevention from Cogswell Polytechnical College. He has numerous certifications through the California State Fire Marshal Office including: Fire Officer, Chief Officer and Master Instructor. Chief Sargenti resides in Salinas with his wife and three children. His hobbies include mountain biking, home improvement projects, and spending time with his family.
